The Dallas Mavericks sign Tim Thomas

Blogged under Big Mavericks News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Tuesday 28 July 2009 at 5:37 pm

The Mavericks have signed 31-year old forward Tim Thomas to a 1-year deal. Thomas played in 64 games (6 starts) for the Bulls, Knicks and Clippers last season in which he averaged 19.5 minutes, 8.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. He has now played in 806 games (407 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 26.1 minutes, 11.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. This was a good move for the Mavericks as Thomas should provide some offense off the bench.

The Dallas Mavericks sign Drew Gooden

Blogged under Big Mavericks News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Sunday 26 July 2009 at 1:03 pm

The Mavericks have signed 27-year old power forward Drew Gooden to a 1-year, $4.5 million dollar deal. Gooden played in 51 games (28 starts) for the Kings, Bulls and Spurs last season in which he averaged 24.8 minutes, 11.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. The much traveled Gooden will likely play quite a bit at power forward or center when the Mavericks decide to go small and run the court. Gooden has now played in 510 games (396 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 28.1 minutes, 12.0 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. This was a good signing for the Mavericks as Gooden is a good basketball player.

The Dallas Mavericks re-sign Jason Kidd

Blogged under Big Mavericks News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Thursday 16 July 2009 at 5:20 pm

The Mavericks have re-signed 36-year old point guard Jason Kidd to a 3-year deal. Kidd played in 81 games (all starts) last season for the Mavericks and he averaged 35.6 minutes, 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 8.7 assists and 2.0 steals per game. Kidd is still a good shooter as evidenced by his 40.6% shooting from three point range last season. The Mavericks would probably like it if Kidd looked for his own shot more but that’s nitpicking. It was very smart to re-sign Kidd to run the offense despite his advancing age. Kidd has now played in 1,107 games (1,094 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 37.2 minutes, 13.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, 9.2 assists and 2.0 steals per game.

The Dallas Mavericks land Shawn Marion in huge four team trade

Blogged under Big Mavericks News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Thursday 9 July 2009 at 5:25 pm

The Dallas Mavericks have acquired 31-year old small forward Shawn Marion (from Toronto), 24-year old power forward Kris Humphries (from Toronto), 22-year old center Nathan Jawai (from Toronto) and 32-year old shooting guard Greg Buckner (from Memphis). The Grizzlies acquired 34-year old SG Jerry Stackhouse (from Dallas) and a future 2nd round pick (from the Raptors). The Raptors got Hedo Turkoglu (from the Magic), 25-year old SG/SF Antoine Wright and 31-year old SF Devean George (both from the Mavericks). The Magic got cash and a $10 million dollar trade exception out of this deal so they are probably very happy right now.

Shawn Marion will start at small forward for the Mavericks next season. He played in 69 games (68 starts) for the Raptors and Heat last season and he averaged 35.8 minutes, 12.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocked shot per game. He has now played in 745 games (730 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 37.6 minutes, 17.8 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.3 blocked shots per game. The Mavericks immediately gave Marion a 5-year, $40 million dollar contract. This was a good move for the Mavericks as Marion should fit it well with the running style of offense that will likely be employed this season. Kris Humphries brings nice size to the Mavericks’ bench. He played in 29 games (0 starts) last season for the Raptors and he averaged 9.1 minutes, 3.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Humphries has now played in 288 games (8 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 11.6 minutes, 4.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. Greg Buckner will likely be bought out by the Mavericks. He played in 63 games (0 starts) for the Grizzlies last season and he averaged 13.9 minutes, 2.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. Buckner has now played in 570 games (117 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 19.1 minutes, 5.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. Nathan Jawai played in only 6 games (0 starts) in his rookie season and he averaged 3.2 minutes, 0.3 points and 0.3 rebounds per game.

Jerry Stackhouse was nearing the end of the line in the Mavericks’ eyes so they won’t miss him at all. He played in only 10 games (1 start) for the Mavericks last season and he averaged 16.2 minutes, 4.2 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Antoine Wright is the only player that the Mavericks traded that still has talent. He played in 65 games (53 starts) for the Mavericks last season and he averaged 23.9 minutes, 7.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Despite Wright being a solid bench player the Mavericks should be able to replace his minutes. Devean George played in 43 games (17 starts) for the Mavericks last season and he averaged 16.5 points, 3.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.

This trade was a huge win for the Mavericks as Shawn Marion was probably the best player involved in this trade and they got him without giving up any core players of their own.

Quinton Ross signs with the Dallas Mavericks

Blogged under Big Mavericks News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Wednesday 8 July 2009 at 8:51 pm

The Mavericks have signed 28-year old SG/SF Quinton Ross. Ross played in 68 games (7 starts) for the Grizzlies last year and he averaged 17.1 minutes, 3.9 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. He has now played in 370 games (158 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 20.4 minutes, 4.6 points, 2.3 rebound and 1.1 assists per game. Ross will give the Mavericks hustle and defense off the bench this season.

2. (56) Ahmad Nivins, PF

Blogged under Big Mavericks News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General,The Draft Report by alleyoop on Saturday 27 June 2009 at 2:50 pm

The Dallas Mavericks selected 22-year old power forward Ahmad Nivins with the #56 pick in the NBA Draft. Nivins played in 126 games in his 4 seasons at St. Joseph’s in which he averaged 14.2 points, 7.6 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. Nivins should be able to give the Mavericks solid minutes off the bench in 2009-2010 and maybe much more down the road.

2. (45) Nick Calathes, PG

Blogged under Big Mavericks News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General,The Draft Report by alleyoop on Saturday 27 June 2009 at 2:47 pm

The Mavericks acquired Nick Calathes from the Timberwolves on Draft Night. Calathes played in 72 games in two seasons at Florida and he averaged 16.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He could back up and learn from Jason Kidd if the Mavericks bring him back. This was a solid move for the Mavericks.

1. (25) Rodrique Beaubois, SG

Blogged under Big Mavericks News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General,The Draft Report by alleyoop on Saturday 27 June 2009 at 2:44 pm

The Mavericks acquired 21-year old shooting guard Rodrique Beaubois last night in a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Beaubois is strictly a offensive minded player. He played in 54 games in three seasons in France and he averaged 7.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. Beaubois did shoot 58.8% from the floor in France but he will be a longshot to play a lot of minutes as a rookie as he appears to have a lot to learn yet.

The Dallas Mavericks sign G/F Gerald Green

Blogged under Big Mavericks News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Friday 4 July 2008 at 9:31 am

The Mavericks have signed G/F Gerald Green to a 1-year contract that will become official on July 9th. He’s more known as a dunk artist than a basketball player and that will need to change if he wants to get off the bench in Dallas. The 22-year old, 6’8″, 200 pound Green can handle either the shooting guard or small forward position. Green played in 30 games (0 starts) last season with the Timberwolves & Rockets and he averaged 12.1 minutes, 5.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. Green has now played in 143 games (29 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 17.6 minutes, 8.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. This was a nice low risk/high reward signing for the Mavericks.

The Dallas Mavericks sign Jamaal Magloire

Blogged under Big Mavericks News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Wednesday 27 February 2008 at 5:55 pm

The Mavericks have signed center Jamaal Magloire to a contract for the remainder of the season. He played in 24 games (2 starts) for the Nets this year and he averaged 10.8 minutes, 1.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. He had trouble shooting for the Nets this season as he only hit 30.6% of his shots from the floor and 45.2% of his shots from the free throw line. Magloire has now played in 530 games (301 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 24.5 minutes, 8.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 1.0 block per game. He has hit 47.9% of his shots from the floor and 66% of his shots from the free throw line. This was a nice signing by the Mavericks as Magloire should be able to replace the minutes DaSagana Diop used to play.
