The Dallas Mavericks are in great shape at shooting guard

29-year old Josh Howard will likely be the starting shooting guard for the Mavericks this season. He played in 52 games for the Mavericks last season and he averaged 32.0 minutes, 18.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 assists per game. Look for Howard to get back over 20 points a game this season with improved health. 32-year old Jason Terry will be the first guard off the bench for the Mavericks as he can handle either guard spot. He played in 74 games for the Mavericks last season and he averaged 33.7 minutes, 19.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Look for Terry to have another solid season off the bench for the Mavericks. 29-year old Matt Carroll has hit 40% of his three point attempts in his career which is his best attribute. He played in 55 games with the Hornets and Mavericks last season in which he averaged 11.2 minutes, 3.0 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. Carroll probably won’t play too much for the Mavericks this season. 21-year old Rodrigue Beaubois was the 25th pick of the NBA Draft selected by the Thunder and then traded to the Mavericks. He might have a important role down the road for the Mavericks but for now he will sit and learn.

PROJECTED GRADE FOR THE SHOOTING GUARDS IN 2009-2010 SEASON: B+
