Blogged under Big Mavericks News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Tuesday 19 February 2008 at 1:44 pm

The Nets and Mavericks moved some parts around and got the big trade done. The Mavericks have acquired Jason Kidd, Malik Allen and Antoine Wright from the Nets for Devin Harris, Maurice Ager, DeSagana Diop, Trenton Hassell, Keith Van Horn, a first round pick in each 2008 and 2010. The Mavericks also sent $3 million bucks to the Nets. The trade was held up due to Devean George using his no-trade clause and Jerry Stackhouse running his mouth about taking 30 days off before re-signing with the Mavericks. The Mavericks also waived rookie Nick Fazekas to make room on the roster for Keith Van Horn before he was traded to Dallas. Fazekas played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Mavericks this season and he averaged 2.3 minutes, 1.0 points and 0.8 rebounds per game. This was a good move for the Mavericks as Jason Kidd should make everyone on the roster better. Antoine Wright and Malik Allen should help off the bench for the Mavericks.

Devean George nixes trade to the New Jersey Nets

Blogged under Big Mavericks News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Thursday 14 February 2008 at 7:23 am

Both of the trades between the Mavericks and Nets are on hold because Devean George invoked his no-trade clause in his contract. Unless the Nets and Mavericks can talk him into coming to New Jersey, the trades appear to be dead. The Nets value George more because of his expiring contract than anything he can do to help them on the court.

The Dallas Mavericks have acquired Jason Kidd and Malik Allen from the New Jersey Nets for Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, DeSagana Diop, Devean George, Maurice Ager, $3 million bucks and first round picks in both 2008 + 2010. The 34-year old Jason Kidd is still one of the best point guards in the NBA and he should fit right in on the Mavericks. Kidd played in 51 games (all starts) this season for the Nets and he averaged 37.2 minutes, 11.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, 10.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Kidd hasn’t shot too well this season however as he’s only hit 36.6% of his shots from the floor, 35.6% from 3-point range and 82% from the free throw line. Kidd has now played in 997 games (984 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 37.4 minutes, 14.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 9.2 assists and 2.0 steals per game. The Mavericks didn’t want to trade Devin Harris but the Nets demanded him to be the centerpiece of this trade. Harris played in 39 games (all starts) this season for the Mavericks and he averaged 30.4 minutes, 14.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Jerry Stackhouse will likely get bought out by the Nets and he will be elgible to return to the Mavs in 30 days. He played in 39 games (2 starts) this season for the Mavericks and he averaged 24.0 minutes, 9.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. DeSagana Diop might be missed a little bit by the Mavericks as he provided muscle and defense for them. Diop played in 50 games (18 starts) this season for the Mavs and he averaged 17.4 minutes, 3.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 1.2 blocked shots per game.
